FFor the Memorial Orb project I decided to create, out of clay, a pinch pot shell for the base, and for the decorations I chose to create a sea turtle hatching out of its shell, a sand dollar, and a starfish. My orb is a memorial for sea turtle awareness. Once I had everything attached to the shell, I used dried crushed clay bits and slip to create a sand effect around the turtle and its shell. Once I was completely happy with how my orb looked I set it aside to dry and get ready to be fired. Now that it has been bisc fired, it is time to glaze it. I used crackle glaze on the whole orb. When the orb came out of the kelm, it wasn't crackled which shocked me. Then I learned that to see all the cracks you have to put India ink on it and bam now I see all the cracks, adding more detail. My favorite part about the orb is the sand and the turtle coming out of its shell. My least favorite part is the sandollar, which was stained by the India ink. For my first time using clay, I think it turned out pretty good.
